Version 0.9.60, Internet released 30OCT2005.

[Top]

  • ATTENTION: The structure of the NavData file has been changed. You will be notified that a new NavData download is required. The User.gpsnavdata file will be converted, but it's advised to create a copy before installing version 0.9.60.
  • CHANGED: Australian Visual Reporting Points (VRP's) are now <WPT_IDENT>-<ICAO> instead of <ICAO>-<WPT_IDENT>.
  • CHANGED: When the HSI is active, the scale bar in the Moving Map top left will no longer be displayed, since the distance and scale can be derived from the distance to the Arc display box.
  • FIXED: When Takeoff time was changed, wind vectors were not recalculated correctly.
  • FIXED: Reports were received that when a large number of messages had to be popped-up on the Moving Map (for example airspace warnings), the re-drawing of the Moving Map took so long the message never popped-up. The PDA version has been adjusted: in case of a message, no redrawing takes place until the message has been acknowledged.
  • FIXED: When Default Track Unit was set to MT, in areas with large magnetic variation the HSI needle was offset as large as the magnetic variation.
  • FIXED: When switching units form TT to MT or vise-versa, the Moving Map was not adjusted accordingly. PocketFMS had to be restarted to get changes into effect.
  • FIXED: Certain PDA's (PocketLooks, MDA II) didn't update the position, a manual tap on the screen was required.
  • FIXED: In the USA, many frequencies were listed double when requesting airport information.
  • FIXED: When deleting a flight plan dependent waypoint (TCK's for example) in the middle of a large flight plan, the flight plan window would only show the the first x LIB's (x was somewhat random, and depended on the position of the deleted waypoint in the flight plan file).
  • FIXED: When a flight plan was loaded, the takeoff from was not updated visually.
  • FIXED: Weird things could happen to the planned altitude for a LIB.`
  • FIXED: Remarks in VFR Approach Charts could get really messed up because internal sorting order was not taken into account.
  • FIXED: Docking / un-docking the flight plan or Comm&Info window resulted in a mess many times. These windows now only align to the left or right side of the screen.
  • FIXED: When outside a LEG's parallel area, PocketFMS did not know which leg was currently active. Now, based on shortest distance to the end point, an active LIB will be chosen.
  • FIXED: When the size of maps.gpsdat was limited due to the File | Properties Limit PDA memory setting, many times after an Intermediate NavData download the entire maps.gpsdat file was re-transferred to the PDA, resulting in very long sync times. This occurred because when the new NavData size even changed one byte, more space is free for the maps.gpsdat file. Now PocketFMS will round the maps.gpsdat file to the nearest lowest MB of data. This allows the NavData to grow with max 1MB before the maps are affected.
  • FIXED: Depending on the screen resolution, sometimes the last LIB in a flight plan would obscure the trip totals.
  • FIXED: When the Altitude Analysis window is open, a checkmark will now be displayed in the View menu.
  • FIXED: PocketFMS now correctly uses the inbound altitude for a VFR Reporting Point.
  • FIXED: The Navlog sometimes displayed out-of-range radials for VOR positions.
  • FIXED: VOR frequencies entered by the NavFarm were printed on the Moving Map containing a double dot.
  • FIXED: ATIS frequency in Comms & Info window rounded .125 frequencies to .13.
  • FIXED: It was impossible to enter a separation on the PDA, it kept complaining about "do not enter more than 6 characters".
  • FIXED: When altitude for a LIB was changed below 1000' clearance, on loading the saved plan the planned altitude was reset to provide 1000' clearance again.
  • FIXED: When entering Enter of Escape in the W&B, a row would disappear.
  • FIXED: Due to a wrongly initialized variable the first 4 FIRs (YGGG, ANAU, AYPY, BGGL) did never download any NavData.
  • FIXED: Some changes have been made to the serial interface to get it working on an iPAQ HP6515 with integrated GPS.
  • FIXED: Some changes to the scrolling mechanism on the flight planning screen have been made to get it to work correctly on an iPAQ HP 6515.
  • FIXED: The Info window for obstacles displayed wrong height AGL / AMSL sometimes.
  • FIXED: When Flight Plan Options, "Auto-adjust altitude in case of ROC / ROD to high" was NOT set, funny things happened with TOD and EOD markers.
  • FIXED: The NavLog displayed the first cumulative distance wrong if the current plane position was way off the starting position of the first leg.
  • IMPROVED: Coloring of Relative Terrain has been changed to cover more areas when the background map is active, and has also been improved.
  • IMPROVED: PocketFMS now remembers the screen position and layout of all toolbars, on next startup these settings will be used again. This is especially useful for people using Tablet PC's with small screens, they can now layout their optimal screen. All toolbars can float now.
  • IMPROVED: The serial GPS interface has been tweaked for performance. An inter-character delay of 50ms was removed, and the no-GPS-signal timeout has been increased from 2 to 5 seconds. History proves that when ANYTHING in the GPS serial interface is changed, a number of users is bound to get problems. To get the original values back, a registry hack is available. Please contact info@pocketfms.com if you encounter any problems while pre- 0.9.60 functioned OK.
  • IMPROVED: The popup messages, EFB menu and Tap & Hold on the PDA are more responsive now.
  • IMPROVED: Minimizing, maximizing and restoring PocketFMS' window now works better.
  • IMPROVED: The Dashboard window now displays the active waypoint, Bearing(!!!!), DTK, Distance, ETE and graphical XTK. Max scale deflection for this XTK is 5NM.
  • IMPROVED: Using File | Properties, Object Colors tab, different modes for Relative Terrain can be set.
    • "Shading" is as it is now (different color intensity for more / less clearance),
    • "One Color" means only the selected color will be used and
    • "Transparent" means the background will remain untouched.
  • IMPROVED: On the HSI two arrows are displayed, one for the first waypoint to come, and one for the one thereafter. The first arrow is on the inside of the HSI ring and points outwards, the second one is on the outside of the arc and points inwards. Both arrows give the bearing from the current position to the respective waypoints.
  • IMPROVED: The trackline on the HSI is now rendered with a gray sideline on the left and right.
  • IMPROVED: The Info window will now display the full name too in case of VRP's and waypoints.
  • IMPROVED: Airplane Filter specifications now allow to specify airports with IFR precision / non-precision approaches.
  • IMPROVED: The declutter method has been greatly adjusted to prevent obstacles overlapping each other. This has been a major re-design of the declutter algorithm. Highest obstacles will always be displayed first. Autodeclutter now uses a priority order schema to determine what object is to be displayed in case of overlapping. Airports have been given the highest priority, other objects are currently equal prioritised so the first encountered object will be displayed in that case.
  • IMPROVED: Most windows now respond to day mode / night mode setting.
  • IMPROVED: When exiting PocketFMS with an unsaved flight plan open, PocketFMS will prompt to save it.
  • IMPROVED: When obstacles are decluttered, a multiple objects symbol will be used to indicate more objects are in the area.
  • IMPROVED: When requesting Info about an object, all objects in the flight plan will be taken into account, regardlesss if respective object kind is displayed on the map.
  • IMPROVED: A few changes have been made to the VFR NavLog to have it displayed OK in Firefox too.
  • IMPROVED: Lat / lons now allow also seconds to be in hundredths of degrees.
  • IMPROVED: Unsuitable airports are now given lowest priority when displayed on the map, so they won't obscure any other info.
  • NEW: The PC version now allows to set separation in File | Properties | GPS tab.
  • NEW: The About dialog now displays the currently installed NavData cycle.
  • NEW: For Reporting Points (and waypoints) it is now possible to display their name, not only their ID.
  • NEW: Using File | Properties, GPS Tab on the PC, a user can now set logbook settings as on the PDA version.
  • NEW: Using File | Properties, a user can now set the unit for the deviation bar on the HSI. Options are Degrees and Cross Track Distance (XTK). When Degrees are chosen the deviation dots are circles, when XTK is chosen the deviation dots are squares.
  • NEW: Using the EFB menu, a user can now select a rudimentary Night mode / Day mode. In Night mode, the background color will change to black.
  • NEW: The Airport Info window now displays frequency and ident for ILS with runways.
  • NEW: The VFR Approach chart now has an ILS section in case one or more runways are equipped with ILS.
  • NEW: The VFR Approach chart now displays the NavData cycle date in the top section.
  • NEW: On the GPS Settings tab you can now specify that a new breadcrumb file is to be created with every Enable GPS.
  • NEW: When saving a flight plan, PocketFMS will create an Australian Flight Notification File. This file has the same name as the flight plan itself, but now with a ".dtl" extension.

Version 0.9.59, Internet released 02JUN2005.

[Top]

  • FIXED: Fuel calculations for legs containing a descend or climb were wrong.
  • FIXED: EET for LIBs containing a descend or climb were wrong.
  • FIXED: Deleting a LIB caused a mess many times. (Needs extensive testing!)
  • FIXED: Numeric PAIM's did not accept a minus sign, so no negative values could be used.
  • FIXED: Major bug: When synchronizing user objects, the new indexing schema (ICAO + airport name + city name) was not used to search if a user airport on the PDA already existed on the PC. As a result, with each sync the user.gpsnavdata file kept growing. This version tries to fix that on startup and when synchronizing with a PDA.
  • FIXED: When rubber banding, PocketFMS picked non flight-plannable objects too, allowing you for example to take an MSA as you LIB end point.
  • FIXED: When rubber banding, and changing "AUTONAME" to an own value, an error will be displayed if an object with the same name already exists.
  • FIXED: The internal indexing software crashed when the item search for was the last item in the list. This caused waypoints like "zzzzz" or [eh 3] to crash PocketFMS as soon as they where used in a LIB or searched for.
  • FIXED: Version 0.9.58 had the Airport Identifiers changed from ICAO + airport name to ICAO + airport name + city name. Because of this, downloading Own Charts didn't match airports, and effectively rendered the Own charts useless
  • ROC / ROD now has m/s added as unit.
  • Weight now as Imperial Gallon added as unit.
  • Fuel quantity now has LBS, KG & Imperial Gallon added as unit.
  • A VFR approach plate now displays frequencies always with 2 decimals.
  • A LIB's "crossed airspaces" info will now display the airspace class for the departure point too.

Version 0.9.58, Internet released 17MAY2005.

[Top]

  • ATTENTION: For Donors, the size of scanned (UMN Stage 1) maps has been increased from 1000 x 1000 to 3000 x 3000 pixels. Please be aware this consumes a lot of memory!
  • ATTENTION: The interface to NIMA's ElevData has been improved so high peaks are better displayed on the Relative Terrain. Previous versions had NIMA made the output averaged, so high peaks where flattened out. To use this improvement, you must manually delete the file elevdata.gpsdat from \program files\pocketfms, then start PocketFMS and re-download your ElevData! Don't forget to synchronize your PDA afterwards.
  • ATTENTION: Because of internal improvements this version might not be able to use flight plans stored in previous versions!
  • CHANGED: Hard button #4 has been changed from Moving Map settings to Comms & Info.
  • FIXED: Inserting a LIB now takes place correctly AFTER the currently selected LIB.
  • FIXED: When entering the advanced settings on the PDA an uninitialised pointer was used, causing all kinds of unexpected behavior like settings not being available or PocketFMS crashing.
  • FIXED: Several smaller and larger memory leaks, thanks to Rational C++ Purifier. It has cost us an arm and a leg, so please keep those donations flowing! ;-)
  • IMPROVED: The Wind Calculator is considerably easier to use now.
  • IMPROVED: The menu on the PDA has been redesigned according to Legin's proposal.
  • IMPROVED: On the PC, the Overlay Maps button now pops-up an EFB menu with common options used by Tablet PC users.
  • NEW: Redesigned User Interface with SMS-type input including OneTouch and PAIM (PocketFMS Advanced Input Method). No need for a keyboard anymore on both PC and Pocket PC, plus quicker data entry!
  • NEW: Multiple unit support & conversion (KTS / MPH / KMH / MH / TH / mB / In Hg / °C / °F etc.). You can set which units you prefer, or even convert them upon entry via the PAIM.
  • NEW: Editing of existing waypoint ID's in flight plan LIBs is now possible.
  • NEW: A new option is available to Donors in the Internet menu called "Get Intermediate NavData". This will download NavData from the UMN Stage 2 server (called NavFarm) that is almost instantly updated (refreshed every 2 hours!). The regular "Get NavData" will only download the active cycle, updated once every 28 days.
  • NEW: Internally, a new field has been implemented via UMN Stage 2. PocketFMS now only requests METAR / TAF from stations that have this flag set.
  • NEW: New options to the EFB menu on the PDA and PC:
    • Search (identical to the one from the Quickmenu),
    • Download MeteoData in a 50 NM radius from current SCREEN CENTER (not PlotPlane!!) position,
    • Download MeteoData for current flight plan,
  • NEW: The Search function now has an additional button labeled "DL WX" in case of an airport to download TAFs / METARs for that airport. After downloading, the TAF / METAR will be shown.

Version 0.9.57, Internet released 23JAN2005.

[Top]

  • ONLY RELEASED TO BETA CREW
  • FIXED: Altitudes went haywire after saving and reloading a flight plan.
  • NEW: Fully revised ElevData handling, significantly reducing the size and download speed and improving the accuracy.

Version 0.9.56, Internet released 23JAN2005.

[Top]

  • FIXED: About half of the HP 4700 series is equipped with a buggy VGA chipset implementation by ATI. If you happen to have a faulty one, PocketFMS wouldn't get past the startup screen. The PocketFMS logo on the main screen now gets painted in a different way internally (you shouldn't see any difference, but this caused the 4700 to crash).
  • FIXED: Progress bars are painted differently internally.
  • FIXED: PocketFMS forgot to adjust the year when calculating the active NavData cycle. This results in all users getting a popup message saying "You've got cycle 200501, should be 200414".

Version 0.9.55, Internet released 16JAN2005.

[Top]

  • ATTENTION: Release 0.9.55 is primarily meant as a bug fix release for 0.9.54. No new features were added since 0.9.54. Version 0.9.54 will not appear in the Legacy Versions section of this website.
  • FIXED: Version 0.9.54 auto-removed Airspace and Obstacle warnings when the warning no longer applied. However, when NO NavData was loaded yet, the list of warned objects was left uninitialised, causing PocketFMS to crash immediately at startup. This affected most new installations, as these do not have any NavData loaded after installation.
  • FIXED: When the TT was exactly 0, Airspace warnings and the Comms & Info window did not display any airspaces it should.
  • FIXED: Both Comms & Info and the Airspace Warning popup did NOT find the shortest time to an airspace crossing. As soon as one crossing point was found, the routines exited and did not check for the existence of a shorter crossing point. This resulted in displaying exit times instead of entry times for those airspaces.
  • FIXED: When searching for alternates, PocketFMS limited the search to the 200 airfields starting from the starting point running to the end point. On long trips, this 200 airfield limit was not enough and resulted in very distant alternates.
  • FIXED: When searching for Alternates, variable WindDir was used. As a result, this variable contains any imaginable value. If no WX data was found, this variable remained the same unknown value, and often that resulted in failing for the max crosswind check, resulting in no or very distant alternate locations.
  • FIXED: In rare occasions (again due to uninitialised data), when a user downloaded MeteoData and only few maps where downloaded, PocketFMS could crash.

Version 0.9.54, Internet released 25DEC2004.

[Top]

  • FIXED: When the Planned Altitude was changed for a leg, the changed TOD / EOD symbols where not adjusted on the Moving Map unless the map was zoomed-in or zoomed-out.
  • FIXED: UMN Charts where "color disrupted" when zooming-in or out.
  • FIXED: If terrain coloring was enabled AND maps where enabled AND some parts of the screen did not have a map overlayed, these not-overlayed parts where not terrain colored.
  • FIXED: The PDA version did not display the MLA symbol on the Moving Map when an airport was MLA only.
  • FIXED: Using the zoom-in and zoom-out buttons while the Moving Map settings are displayed did not work as advertised in Release Notes for version 0.9.53.
  • FIXED: BreadCrumbs color was accidentally the same as GPS 0D state color, due to fanatic Copy & Paste ;-)
  • FIXED: Previous versions where unable to delete user defined runways and user defined obstacle.
  • FIXED: When the Oakland Oceanic ARTCC was selected, PocketFMS wanted to transfer almost all available ElevData to your PDA because this ARTCC crosses the dateline.
  • FIXED: Version 0.9.53 (and maybe previous versions) calculated crossed airspace classes completely wrong during flight planning.
  • FIXED: USA MOA areas where not displayed correctly when requesting airspace info about it, it always showed the same area.
  • FIXED: It was possible to popup Go to Nearest multiple times, causing PocketFMS to crash eventually.
  • FIXED: When defining UMN charts with special characters like "/" or "." in the airport's name, these charts could not be saved.
  • FIXED: The text "Planned Alt" obscured the TT indicator, so text has been changed to "ALT".
  • FIXED: Go to Nearest now displays the correct caption and the X has been removed.
  • FIXED: When on the Western Hemisphere, airspace warnings where often too late or even not at all.
  • FIXED: The avoidance routine considered airspace definitions with AGL in LowerAlt as MSL. The result was that all airspaces with AGL in their LowerAlt definitions where treated "un-duckable" as soon as terrain elevation raised (for example, 800AGL was considered unduckable when terrain was 301ft and Minimum Altitude was 500ft AGL). The avoidance routine has had a major overhaul to implement this, so check results carefully!
  • FIXED: With the Moving Map in ARC mode, time and distance to ARC were wrong.
  • FIXED: When panning around the Moving Map with HSI on, the time and distance to ARC are now the actual time and distance from the current position instead of center of ROSE / ARC.
  • NEW: The PC version now as an extra tab on File | Properties, where you can set the GPS COMport, baudrate, breadcrumb filename, trace and Ignore Position fix indicator as you can in the PDA version.
  • NEW: An extra window was added called Comms & Info, showing you all required information on Departure and Arrival, en route airspace information and ATIS frequencies.
  • NEW: When you right-click on a text part in a LIB, a pop-up will appear with the option "Approach segment". If you tick this option, PocketFMS will not adjust altitudes in that LIB even if ROD doesn't allow to reach the altitude. Also will speed for that LIB be adjusted to 1.3 x Vy. These Approach LIBs will be colored light-gray instead of white as background.
  • NEW: The flight planning page now has a settings screen, where you can enable or disable auto show Crossed Airspaces, Auto calculate highest terrain and Auto Adjust planned altitude in case of ROD / ROC to high. On the PDA, this settings screen is available via the Page Opt button, on the PC it's available via File | Properties, tab Flight planning.
  • NEW: Using File | Properties, tab Object Colors, it is now possible to enter a minimum obstacle height to filter out unwanted obstacles. You can now also specify if the obstacle's type (building, antenna, mast etc.) should be displayed. This is of course again zoom-level dependent.
  • NEW: Information for NavData objects will no longer be rotated with the map. Instead it's now always readable, regardless of TN / TT up and flown track.
  • NEW: The stylus functions like Add, Move, Delete etc. are no longer zoomlevel dependant.
  • NEW: Altitude Analysis has been improved and now has 3 modes: Flight plan, Breadcrumb and Track-ahead. These functions are in a very Beta-Beta stadium and may not yet perform as expected, nor are they documented yet.
  • When a flight plan was created with a starting point NOT a runway or airport, PocketFMS assumed take-off altitude of 0 ft, resulting most of the time in adjusting the planned altitude for the first leg if that leg was short because the ROC couldn't make it to that altitude. Because of this it was impossible to plan an IFR approach with starting point the IAF.
  • "Manage own charts" allowed in a description all characters, also extended characters above ASCII code 128. This resulted in problems downloading these files from the Internet, so from now on only normal 7-bit ASCII characters are allowed.
  • The text on the EFB buttons in the PC version for overlaying own charts where a little too big, this has been adjusted.
  • PocketFMS is now much faster in determining if an airport has VFR arrival routes via VFR reporting points, and this makes flight planning a lot faster.
  • PocketFMS will popup a warning when your current flight path does not provide 500ft of obstacle clearance. The regarding obstacle will be displayed on the map regardless of your "Show obstacles" setting. Also a sound will be played when the popup appears. This warning and playing a sound can be toggled on / off.
  • The font size for "Time to HSI arc" and "Distance to HSI arc" have been enlarged a little for better readability.
  • The dashboard window on the PDA will now display the text using colors for GPS State 3D, 2D and No Fix.
  • When you want to create a new flight plan and the current flight plan does not have changes saved, a popup will ask you if you wish to save the changes now.
  • The map options bar contained an empty button leading to scanned maps overlay. Currently noticed by only one person! Sharp eyes Ron! ;-)
  • The I Agree and Decline buttons on the PDA have been switched to be consistent with the PC version.
  • When producing the NavLog, a progress bar will appear. This is because some items like WX Reports and finding a suitable alternate have been replaced to here, it might take a while before the NavLog pops up.

Version 0.9.53, Internet released 05NOV2004.

[Top]

  • CHANGED: Zooming in and out is now done by buttons on the toolbar instead of tapping on the upper / lower part of the Moving Map. Zoom in / out here (zooming to location) has been added to the context menu.
  • CHANGED: Increasing / decreasing brightness is now done via the Quickmenu (right clicking the Moving Map) menu instead of the lower left / right corners of the Moving Map.
  • FIXED: VFR Reporting points with a digit in the ID were not displayed, and were assumed to be computer waypoints. This should apply to IFR waypoints only.
  • FIXED: Deleted user objects were displayed in the Search list, and selecting them then caused PocketFMS to crash.
  • FIXED: PocketFMS considered all files with 'user.gpsnavdat'" in their filename as user filenames, and tried to load user waypoints from it. Now only files with this extension will be loaded and not files with for example extension".GPSNAVDAT copy of Rob"
  • FIXED: The wind triangle calculations were wrong, the wind influence on desired track was calculated, not the track to be flown. This resulted in small errors as long as wind vectors where not too large, but became very obvious with larger wind vectors
  • FIXED: When a Temporary user object was created, and after that a non-temporary user object was created, the temporary became non-temporary and was also saved to disk.
  • FIXED: Sometimes incorrect airspace info was displayed.
  • FIXED: User NDB's will now display their ID and name.
  • FIXED: User objects will now display ID and name if applicable.
  • FIXED: The tab order in the Adding Object dialog was not correct.
  • FIXED: The "ID" tickbox in Properties for non-suitable airports was not sticky.
  • FIXED: When requesting information for a user-defined airport, PocketFMS would crash.
  • FIXED: When File | Select FIRs is selected and the user presses CANCEL, PocketFMS will no longer index and load NavData.
  • FIXED: User added Obstacles were not shown on the map.
  • FIXED: The Battery Idle Timeout is now ignored by the PDA on PPC2003 devices too.
  • FIXED: When adding User Obstacles, the input screen mentioned Height as ft AMSL where it should have read ft AGL.
  • FIXED: Miscalculations occurred from True to Magnetic. PocketFMS might in some occasions indicate the course to be 365° or -2°. This is mostly noted in regions of large variation.
  • FIXED: When a VAP was selected for a runway, it wasn't possible to remove the VAP by clicking the OBS button again.
  • FIXED: When a flight plan was created with the Nearest function, the FIX wasn't saved to the flight plan
  • FIXED: When Nearest was used to create a flight plan to a near object, then pressing the INFO button would show RNAV info in Green (Leg still to come) and no XTK / XTE information. You had to press the FP button once more to get the RNAV info in Gold (current leg) and the XTK / XTE displayed.
  • FIXED: Un-ticking the "Store ElevData on PDA" tickbox will now empty an already existing ElevData file on the PDA on the next sync, freeing the memory.
  • NEW: PocketFMS will now, at user's discretion, play a sound (.WAV file) when:
    • an airspace warning pops-up.
    • when the GPS signal is lost.
  • NEW: PocketFMS PC will now display a warning when the NavData database is outdated.
  • NEW: In addition to Absolute Terrain Shading (ATS), PocketFMS now supports Relative Terrain Shading (RTS).
  • NEW: When you right-click on the map (the Quickmenu), some options have been added , "Larger / smaller Flight plan Info text", "Zoom-in / out here" and "Increase / decrease brightness".
  • NEW: PocketFMS will now display an EOD (End Of Descend) symbol on the map. This is the point where the descend is ended based on performance specs.
  • NEW: It is now possible to increase / decrease the textblock sizes containing flight and flight plan info.
  • It is no longer possible to start multiple instances of PocketFMS on the PDA.
  • PocketFMS will now initially show airports instead of runways when using Direct To.
  • In the flight plan screen T/O time is now only in HH:MM, no longer showing seconds.
  • When a flight plan is loaded with points not available in the current database, PocketFMS will display a message and skip loading that leg, rejoining the leg before and after that leg.
  • When File | Select FIRs is selected and a flight plan is still open, PocketFMS will display a message that the flight plan must be closed first. This will prevent one or more elements from the active flight plan becoming deleted when the corresponding FIR is removed.
  • TOD for arrival procedures will now be handled differently from TOD for En route altitude changes (see manual for details).
  • When an arrival is planned via a VFR reporting point, PocketFMS will now calculate the TOD in such a way the reporting point is reached at an altitude of Field Elevation + 700 ft.
  • When creating a flight plan, the start-at will now be automatically set to the nearest airport.
  • Changed the PlotPlane symbol. Its color is now user-defined.
  • Airspace info now shows airspaces sorted from lowest to highest (based on the airspace's lower altitude).
  • PocketFMS used to store the IAS with the flight plan when saved, and use that IAS back again when the flight plan was reloaded. Now PocketFMS will use the IAS from the currently selected airplane when loading a saved flight plan
  • The Airplane window on the PDA did not mention speeds are IAS.
  • Text "Speed" in Dashboard screen has been changed to "ground speed", Altitude was displayed grayed, is now black.
  • You can now use the zoom-in and zoom-out buttons while the Moving Map settings screen is active. A number in the upper right of the Moving Map settings screen will display the current zoomlevel.
  • The toolbar with zoom in / out and brightness up / down (called "Map Controls bar") can be (de)activated using View | Map Controls Bar. This View menu is also re-arranged.
  • Pop-ups for GPS warning, Airspace Warning, Airspace Info, WX Info and Object Info do no longer have an OK button, tapping the window will close it.
  • PocketFMS kept a list of included FIRs / ARTCC's based on an internal identifier maintained by NIMA. Because this internal Identifier changed sometimes with new NavData cycles, PocketFMS could possibly lose the reference to some FIRs / ARTCC's included by the user. From now on, PocketFMS will maintain the list by ICAO code so this problem is much less likely to re-occur.

Version 0.9.52, Internet released 06AUG2004.

[Top]

  • FIXED: Terrain Shading is back on the Moving Map.
  • FIXED: NDB's show ident, frequency and name again.
  • NEW: PocketFMS now supports COM9 as GPS input.

Version 0.9.51, Internet released 23JUL2004.

[Top]

  • FIXED: MSA values where only displayed if one other object type (RWY, airport, VOR etc) was also displayed. Enabling only MSA values would not display these values on the map.
  • FIXED: When you specified 2 different values for lower/upper hide airspace, the lower one would overwrite the upper one.
  • FIXED: Object colors depending on Class types where not transferred correctly to the PDA.
  • FIXED: The Advanced Settings tab on the PDA obscured the labels at the bottom on some PDA's.
  • FIXED: After downloading ElevData the Get Maps option was grayed out until PocketFMS was restart.
  • FIXED: When pressing Escape in a flight plan LIB will no longer render the flight plan useless.
  • FIXED: When you right-click on the Moving Map a popup will appear. When switching screens then this popup will no longer be visible.
  • FIXED: The toolbar images have been slightly changed by Bernd Seeger to make then look even better in pressed state.
  • FIXED: When clicking on the scroll bar on the information page the text will now scroll.
  • FIXED: NDB frequencies will now be display in a more common format.
  • FIXED: The information window showed longitude coordinates with N/S instead of E/W.
  • FIXED: When changing one of the settings in the PocketFMS CE General menu and pressing the (virtual) Enter key, PocketFMS was terminated. The Enter key was placed over the 'Exit PocketFMS' button, by not including this button in the tab-stops this is now prevented.
  • FIXED: Many Windows Mobile 2003 devices were unable to download METARs & TAFs.
  • FIXED: On many Windows Mobile 2003 devices the PlotPlane wouldn't change color on a GPS Fix / No fix, the PlotPlane would remain black.
  • FIXED: When the information window was popped-up and dragged around, the map display got disturbed.
  • NEW: A new user interface (EFB - Electronic Flight Bag) has been implemented. We expect this will increase the ease of use, especially on the PDA.
  • NEW: Use self scanned maps, overlaying the original PocketFMS map. These User Maintained NavData Charts (UMN charts) can be exchanged with other users via a PocketFMS server.
  • NEW: In the upper left corner of the Moving Map a scale bar will now be displayed, indicating the zoomlevel number (1-10) and an equivalent distance in NM.
  • PocketFMS PC will now warn the user when the minimum storage memory required on your PDA exceeds the current Storage Memory Limit.
  • PocketFMS will now display a warning when your NavData is outdated.
  • It's now possible to hide all airspace with a lower altitude over a specified altitude.
  • When a new flight plan is saved, PocketFMS will now propose a filename based on the first and last point of the flight plan
  • The Nearest function now supports direct to NDB's and IFR Waypoints too.
  • The Nearest function will now display distance, TT and EET (hours:minutes) to all the options presented. In case of airports and runways the elevation is also displayed between [ ]. Also the background color has been changed from gray to while to improve visibility.
  • Airspace warnings will now also display the upper/lower limits, Airspace ID and operating hours.
  • During synchronization with the PDA the first 40 seconds nothing seemed to happen. Appropriate messages are now displayed.
  • The GPH heading for fuel consumption has been changed in P/H (per hour, text only change). Use whatever units you wish.
  • Improvements have been made on the avoidance algorithm to make sure airspace is not violated when ground elevation is too high to cross the airspace at a given minimum altitude. Previous versions violated this when the elevation at the crossing point was OK to maintain minimum altitude, but when elevation raised during the crossing the planned altitude was also raised resulting in violating airspace.
  • The Flight planning screen now labels "Add Leg" instead of "Insert Leg" to make sure the text is visible on the button.
  • Line thickness for airspaces more then 10 pixels width failed to paint. Now it's no longer possible to paint lines more than 9 pixels wide for airspace.
  • The Help-button in File | Properties had no help attached, and has now been removed.
