A flight planning example (1 of 10).

Welcome to this short tour. To proceed to the next page, press one of the 'Next page' buttons.

The first step when flight planning is enabling the flight planning screen (if not already present) by choosing option View | Flight plan for the the PC version or by pressing the most left button on a Pocket PC. Pushing the 'New' button will bring up the following screen:

Starting a new flightplan.

The next thing we have to do is enter the ID of our departure airport, in our example EHLE. Notice the rounded edges on the input boxes; these input boxes are called PAIMs (PocketFMS Advanced Input Methods), and once double-clicked a large keyboard appears that's even usable in the roughest of air. The keyboard is adapted to the PAIM that opened it, so a PAIM expecting numeric input will pop a numeric keyboard.
These PAIMs also take care of on-the-fly unit conversions, so °C, °F, miles, kilometers, liters, gallons, it doesn't matter what you enter. Of course you can set a default for the units you prefer to use.

You can also just type the ID. After typing / selecting at least 3 characters, it is possible to use the drop-down function to produce a list of possible starting points. Notice our planned speed has already been set to our aircraft's cruising IAS.
